ABOUT
Updated: April 24, 2009

Echo Valley Hope is an educational and charitable nonprofit corporation created by a group of people wanting to make a difference. In recognition of the need for sustainable living and renewable energy, Echo Valley Hope seeks to educate the general public and supports the efforts of similar organizations in all aspects of ecological preservation and sustainable living.

Charitable activities include providing good nutritious food and clean water to those in need from disaster or long term disadvantage.

Recognizing that community building begins with strong, empowered individuals, Echo Valley Hope supports educational and charitable nonprofit organizations which promote the well being of all people.

We are honored by Wisconsin Trail magazine's Editor Harriet Brown, for her selection of Echo Valley Hope as one of "20+ People Making A Difference" in the January / February 2008 annual conservation issue.

ECHO VALLEY HOPE'S 2009 INITIATIVES

Farms Link People (www.farmslinkpeople.org)
This initiative is designed to connect people wanting to farm with people who have land and need help; for people who want to steward land to people who have the “know how;” for young and old who want to try out a green thumb; for people who recognize the need for locally grown foods and those who want to make a difference. With this endeavor we seek a systemic change in farming, an increase in sustainable farms and community gardens, and more vibrant and flourishing communities. We seek to end hunger by rekindling our relationship to the Earth.

Sustainability Classes
We offer hands on experience in sustainable agriculture from spring planting through harvest and apple orchard care. We offer animal husbandry allowing for the dignity of the animal and of the keeper. We offer classes in food preparation, canning, and other means of self-sustaining activities. This year we will begin to offer reasonably priced solar and wind considerations, as well as strawbale and other green construction. These classes are offered free of charge at Echo Valley Farm in Ontario, WI.

Community Garden
Local people without land to farm have begun to work the parcel of land donated for a community garden. The gardeners will feed their families and share the remaining harvest with other families in need. Currently, at least 10 families are involved, with more gardeners coming every week.

UPDATES
* Navajo Rug Sales: We will soon be selling handmade Navajo rugs from Lukachukai, Arizona. All proceeds will go to the weavers. More information will be coming soon.
* School Food Programs: We are beginning steps to advocate for and help create a children’s garden. We will add our voice to those calling for improvement of southwestern Wisconsin school food programs.
